Protecting Against Intentional
Electromagnetic Interference
|
Life Magazine reported on this test and showed pictures of people on the beach watching the detonation and the subsequent effect of the city lights being shut down from the electromagnetic pulse. From that moment, the U.S. military has protected and “hardened” its critical facilities, aircraft, aircraft carriers and other ships against this threat. Over time, the Emprimus founders became aware of new non-nuclear devices (radio frequency weapons) that are capable of producing EMP. These devices, some of which are transported by vehicles, are capable of disrupting or permanently damaging critical electronics and control systems, as well as corrupting data from hundreds, even thousands of feet away. Continuing their research, the founders also discovered that a severe solar storm could cause loss of the U.S. power grid for extended periods of time Today, virtually everything runs on computers and integrated circuits, but there has been little protection of the critical civilian infrastructure. The Emprimus founders saw that there were no graduated, cost-effective protection systems for the civil infrastructure, nor was there an effective testing program to determine vulnerability of new electronic equipment, nor was there testing of remediation for civil systems. While there was recognition of these risks to the civil infrastructure by Congress, there was very little action to protect our industries, in spite of the fact that foreign countries have already hardened infrastructure and foreign companies have hardened hundreds of their data centers It also became apparent that protection against non-nuclear EMP and geomagnetic storms could also afford protection against nuclear EMP. The solution to protect our families and country’s civil infrastructure would require substantial investment to fill the protection gap against nuclear, non-nuclear and solar storm caused EMPs. This solution included forming a team of very experienced professionals from multiple industries, who incorporate security and facility design changes, implement civilian equipment and remediation testing programs, provide a range of protection solutions, enlist legislative and federal/state agency efforts, while continuing to educate the public. Emprimus was formed for the very purpose of protecting our families and country against these risks.
